Director's Vision
America's surface transportation system has been a driving factor in our country's growth, economic prosperity and resilience during the past two centuries. Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Dwight D. Eisenhower boldly took action to build the nation's surface transportation infrastructure, and thereby enhance economic and strategic competitiveness. But it took the vision, ingenuity and innovation of planners, engineers and builders to develop the intercontinental railroad and the national highway system.
At CCITT our goal is to leverage the ingenuity of the faculty and students at Northwestern University to impact our nation's surface transportation system in the 21st century. Our vision is to enhance Northwestern's status as a role model for the transfer of transportation technology and innovation to end-users. To achieve this vision we work in partnership with other transportation centers, institutes and support systems at Northwestern, to provide an additional mechanism for moving research to realization. We look forward to working with researchers from any department at Northwestern and with local, state and national transportation practitioners.
